About Me
The first thing to know is that Koch rhymes with book!
I am in my seventh year of teaching, and this is my second year at Burris.
A native of Evansville, Indiana, I studied English, Speech Communication, and Theatre at Ball State University. I have experience teaching both middle and high school students in a variety of courses including Language Arts, Drama, and Speech. I also worked several years in the private sector, so I know what it means to apply skills learned in English classes to real world situations.
In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my husband and being outside; running, hiking, canoeing, camping, and fishing are some of our favorite activities. I also love to read (fantasy, historical fiction, and creative nonfiction are my favorite genres), hang out with friends over a meal, and in cold months, sit by the fire with a cup of tea and a knitting project. I live in Yorktown with my husband, two dogs (Gryffon and Gracie) and four rabbits (Bear, Licorice, Feisty, and Tiny).
My goal for my students is that they will reach their full potential. That potential is different for each student, but I expect each student to arrive willing to work and to engage in the lessons.
I'm thrilled to be teaching at Burris, and I can't wait to get to know you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Karen Koch
